Flash Mob to counter KKK

Flash mob – gather at 2pm…carpools leave CSK Center at 1pm. Read info below for directions and parking info. After flash mob sings, you can go directly to concert venue in Kettering.

The Dayton branch of the NAACP has organized this event in response to the KKK Rally:

IMPORTANT DIRECTIONS FROM KURT OLT ABOUT PARKING AND ROAD CLOSURES 

Flash mob will be at McIntosh Park, intersection of Edwin C. Moses & Riverview (just south of Salem Ave. bridge).  This is 2 blocks north of RTA Cultural & Transit Center on Edwin C. Moses which is between the 3rd & 5th St. bridges and is a converted church on Edwin C. Moses (levee side). WHC has performed there twice in recent years.The RTA center is the parking venue. Since the perimeter of the park will be blocked off for the 1:00-3:00 event (“An  Afternoon of Love, Unity ,Peace & Inclusion”) parking  cannot be accessed from Riverview to the south from Salem Ave. bridge. The flash mob will happen @ 2:15.  Participants should meet @ 2:00 at a utility pole located west of the playground.  Words to “This Little Light of Mine” will be distributed then.

It is about 15 minutes from KSDA Church for  WHC singers doing the flash mob. Best route is south on Edwin C. Moses to Stewart St. Bridge.  South (right) on Patterson Blvd. after crossing bridge.  East (left) on Dorothy Ln.  South (right) on Southern Blvd.  KSDA Church is located on the southeast corner of Southern Blvd. & W. Stroop Rd.  Park on the north side of the church as there is very limited parking on Stroop Rd. (south) end of church  This can be accessed by turning into the lot just south of the Southern Blvd. crosswalk to the hospital.  For people not doing  the flash mob and entering from W. Stroop.,  go north on Southern Blvd.. then right (east) at the first driveway for parking.

Here’s a follow-up to yesterday’s email from Kurt.

Directions from I-75 (both north and south):  Exit @ Edwin C, Moses (UD Arena exit).  It is about 2 miles from this exit to parking venue (RTA Center).  4th St. on south side of RTA Center is the turn for parking.

Directions from I-675:  Exit 4 (North towards Kettering).  This is SR 48/Far Hills Ave.  About a 5 mile drive to W. Stewart St.  (UD/Miami Valley Hosp.area).  Turn left (West) on Stewart.  After crossing bridge turn right (North) on Edwin C. Moses to destination (about 1 mile).

NOTE:  McIntosh Park is not far from Grace UM Church where a number of you have sung in past years.  However, due to numerous street closings both around McIntosh Park and Couthouse Square you are encouraged to following these directions instead of how you may have gone to Grace UM.

Also, for those who may be challenged by the walk to McIntosh Park here are directions to a “drop off”:  Drive west on W. 3rd about .5 mi. to Broadway.  Right (north) on Broadway to Riverview Ave…Right (east) on Riverview to Orth Ave. drop-off area (west boundary of McIntosh Park).  Parking on this street will likely not be permitted after drop-off.
